Major events at the Maryland SoccerPlex, 

              Discovery Sports Center in April 2015                        

Washington Spirit hosting University of North Carolina tonight in final preseason match, Maryland State Cup headed to SoccerPlex April 11-12

Boyds, MD (April 4, 2015) - A marquee matchup with reigning National Women's Soccer League champion FC Kansas City will be a major test for the Washington Spirit in their regular season home opener, and dozens of youth teams hungry for a championship will face off in the Maryland State Cup this month at the Maryland SoccerPlex.

Washington Spirit Kicking Off 2015 NWSL Season

April 4: Preseason finale vs. University of North Carolina | Tickets

April 18: NWSL regular season home opener vs. FC Kansas City | Tickets

The Washington Spirit continued the 2015 National Women's Soccer League preseason with a friendly against the University of Virginia on March 29, and will play their final tune-up before the start of the regular season when they host the University of North Carolina at the SoccerPlex on Saturday, April 4 at 7 p.m.  The game will be a charity match for Headers For Hope, an organization dedicated to helping in the fight against cancer. The Spirit open the regular season on the road April 10 against the Houston Dash, and will play their home opener on Saturday, April 18 against reigning NWSL champion FC Kansas City at the SoccerPlex's Maureen Hendricks Field. Team officials have said they expect the April 18 home opener to be a sellout.

Potomac Valley AAU Basketball District Qualifying Tournament

April 10-12

Location: Discovery Sports Center

Potomac Valley AAU Basketball is hosting its District Qualifying Tournament for the league's Division I teams at the Discovery Sports Center from Friday, April 10 to Sunday, April 12. The event will feature some of the Potomac region's high-level youth basketball talent across various age groups and is a proving ground for teams seeking to qualify for the 2015 AAU National Championships.

Girls Brackets: U12 | U13 | U14 | U15 | U16 | U17 | U18

Boys Brackets: U12 | U13 | U14 | U15 | U16 | U17 | U18

Maryland's top youth soccer teams in the boys and girls U-12 through U-18 age groups will square off for a chance to be crowned state champions over the next four weeks as they compete in the 2015 Maryland State Cup. Many of the preliminary round matches will be held at the SoccerPlex along with the semifinals and finals. With only a few play-in matches left in some age groups before all the Sweet 16 match-ups have been decided, the chase for a state title and qualification for the US Youth Soccer Region I Championships is heating up quickly.

SAM Soccer Spring Season and BOOST Program

April 17-19, April 24-26: SAM Soccer April game days for Rec and SELECT leagues

April 13-30: SAM Soccer BOOST Program classes begin for U9 and U10 players

Location: Complex Wide

After kicking off the SAM Soccer Spring 2015 season on the final weekend March, SAM Rec and SELECT teams will have two weeks off before two busy sets of game days in April. On the Rec side, teams from the U7 age group all the way to High School Divisions will be in action the last two weekends in April, along with all SELECT teams from U10 to U14/15.

The SAM Soccer BOOST Program is beginning its second season in Spring 2015, providing an eight-week supplemental practice course for U9 and U10 players who want to take their soccer experience to the next level. BOOST provides weekly, one-hour practice sessions run by professionally licensed coaches for SAM Recreation and SELECT teams or individual players. Classes are limited to 16 players for each of the four divisions which include U9 Girls, U9 Boys, U10 Girls and U10 Boys. The first BOOST classes of Spring 2015 begin the week of Monday, April 13 and run through June 8.

CHRVA Volleyball

April 18-19, 25-26

Location: Discovery Sports Center

Two weekends of Chesapeake Region Volleyball Association (CHRVA) volleyball tournament action is coming to the Discovery Sports Center this April. CHRVA is one of 40 Regional Volleyball Associations of USA Volleyball. The Region encompasses Delaware, Maryland, Washington D.C. and the northern counties of Virginia.
