Making the Switch

One of the features that separate the Discovery Sports Center from other indoor sport complexes is the facility's ability to transition from 8 basketball and volleyball courts in the spring and summer months to 2 NHL indoor rinks in the fall and winter months.  This element allows the DSC the ability to offer a wider range of sports than most in the country.  This transition, however, doesn't happen overnight.  Many Discovery Sports Center patrons inquire as to how the transition takes place in such a short timeframe.  It takes a small, dedicated staff headed by MSF's Director of Operations Keith Lenert five grueling days to erect one field.  The process includes placing and connecting approximately 70 150-200lb dasher boards, setting the glass and supports for each board, laying and linking 14 1000lb pieces of astroturf carpet, connecting and securing the netting and the list goes on!  This year, we've decided to document the process to show just how much work goes into making the switch.  To see pictures, click
